Half-Day Sit
Zen
Three-hour zazen intensive for all levels at Zen Mountain Monastery. Open to newcomers and experienced practitioners alike.
About this retreat
A half-day sit is a low-commitment entry point to sesshin practice, or a way to deepen an existing sitting practice without a weekend or residential commitment. Three hours of zazen means roughly 2–3 sitting periods of 25–30 minutes each, usually separated by kinhin (walking meditation) and possibly a brief talk or chant.
Zen Mountain Monastery is a residential training center in upstate New York with a long lineage. Their half-day sits are open to anyone, which means you'll likely sit alongside people with decades of experience and people on their first visit. The instruction and pacing are designed to hold both.
