Chado: The Way of Tea
Soto Zen
A one-day in-person workshop on Japanese tea ceremony and its connection to Zen practice. Participants learn the history and philosophy of chado, practice making matcha, and share a vegan lunch.
About this retreat
Chado—the Way of Tea—is a traditional Japanese art form deeply embedded in Zen culture. This day-long session at Zen Mountain Monastery offers an introduction to the practice: its history, philosophy, and hands-on fundamentals. You'll make matcha (powdered green tea) yourself and experience the ceremony's connection to zazen (sitting meditation).
The day includes a vegan lunch. No prior experience with tea ceremony or Zen practice is mentioned as required. Contact the center if you have questions about what to bring or the precise schedule.
