Ancient Dragon Zen Gate marks its Spring Practice Period with a daylong sesshin led by Hogetsu Laurie Belzer. This is a full-day sitting that spans two calendar days: it begins Saturday evening at 7 pm with orientation and zazen, then continues Sunday morning from 7 am through 5:30 pm. The schedule follows traditional sesshin format — alternating periods of zazen (seated meditation) with kinhin (walking meditation) — punctuated by chanting the refuges and a midday oryoki-style lunch.
Format and attendance
- Hybrid: sit in person at the Lincoln Square Zendo or join online
- Partial attendance is welcome — you don't need to commit to the full event
- No prior Practice Collective Program (PCP) registration required
- If attending in person, full COVID-19 vaccination is required
What to know
The registration form asks whether you have an oryoki set (the formal eating bowls used in practice) and whether you'll need a chair for meditation. If you don't have oryoki experience, Ancient Dragon will work with you — this is a beginner-friendly center. Dietary restrictions can be noted during registration.
The suggested donation is $75, but a self-determined sliding scale is always welcome; payment can be made by credit card or check. Register by Monday, March 16.
