Half-Day Sit
Zen
A three-hour zazen sit open to beginners and experienced practitioners. Offered as a day program at Zen Mountain Monastery.
About this retreat
A half-day sit is a low-commitment entry point to sesshin-style practice. Three hours of zazen (seated meditation) in silence, structured like a miniature retreat: you'll sit in rounds with walking meditation (kinhin) between periods, observing noble silence throughout. There's no dokusan or formal instruction — it's pure sitting.
This format works well for people testing whether residential sesshin feels right, or for those in the area who want a contained practice day without traveling. Zen Mountain Monastery is in the Hudson Valley; check whether this is a drop-in program or if registration closes before the date.
