Still Point Zazenkai
with Jody Hojin Kimmel · Zen
Full-day zazenkai (sitting day) at Fire Lotus Temple featuring extended zazen, dokusan, a formal talk, and oryoki lunch. Open to experienced practitioners and those preparing for longer sesshin.
About this retreat
A zazenkai is a structured sitting day—shorter than a sesshin but following the same rhythm. You'll move through multiple periods of zazen (sitting meditation), interrupted by kinhin (walking meditation), with time for dokusan (private instruction with a teacher), a formal talk, and a communal oryoki meal (eating in silence, in formal style, as part of practice).
This one-day format makes it accessible if you can't commit to a multi-day retreat, and it's pitched explicitly as a bridge: a way for newer students to experience the sesshin structure before signing up for a longer commitment, and a chance for experienced practitioners to maintain continuity in their sitting. The inclusion of oryoki is notable—it's hands-on practice, not just zazen.
