Still Point Zazenkai
with Jody Hojin Kimmel·Soto Zen
Full-day zazenkai with extended zazen, liturgy, dokusan, a formal talk, and oryoki lunch. Designed for both experienced students deepening their practice and newer students preparing for sesshin.
About this retreat
A zazenkai is a single-day intensive sit, shorter than a sesshin but structured with the same elements: sustained zazen periods, formal practice, and direct contact with a teacher. This one includes oryoki (formal seated meal practice), liturgy, and dokusan (a private meeting with the teacher), which means you'll experience the core rhythm of Zen monastic practice in compressed form.
Still Point frames this as a bridge—experienced practitioners use it to maintain continuity between longer retreats, while newcomers get a concrete preview of what a sesshin entails. If you're considering a multi-day sesshin but want to test the format first, this is a practical step. The $25 fee is at the lower end of day-sit pricing.
The center has not yet published the teacher leading this retreat, the specific schedule, or lodging details on the signup page. Contact Zen Mountain Monastery for those particulars before registering.
