Butoh: The Art of Receiving
with Vangeline
A three-day in-person workshop exploring Butoh as embodied awareness and receptivity. Led by Vangeline, it draws on traditional Japanese Butoh, Noguchi Taiso, and contemporary nervous-system work to cultivate quieter, more receptive movement and perception.
About this retreat
Butoh is a Japanese postwar dance form rooted in presence and the body's capacity to feel and respond. This workshop treats it as a somatic practice — a way to work directly with how you move, hold tension, and perceive your own patterns. Rather than learning choreography, you'll work with the basic vocabulary of Butoh alongside Noguchi Taiso (a system of somatic education developed by Japanese dancer and theorist Noguchi Haramitsu) to develop a quieter, more receptive quality of attention.
The center has not yet published the daily schedule, lodging options, or whether prior dance experience is expected. Contact the center for those details.
