Jukai Ceremony & Sesshin at Jikoji

with Ōshin Jennings

sesshinin-person

Four-day in-person sesshin culminating in a Jukai ceremony, where lay practitioners receive ordination in the Sixteen Bodhisattva Precepts. Led by Sensei Ōshin Jennings and Sensei Nenzen Brown. Open to Zen practitioners from Jikoji Zen Center, No Barriers Zen, and Santa Barbara Zen Center.

About this retreat

Jukai (lay ordination) is a formal commitment to Zen practice and the precepts—a turning point in many practitioners' relationships with the tradition. This sesshin, held at Jikoji, culminates in that ceremony, so it differs from a typical sesshin in having a specific liturgical aim.

The retreat brings together practitioners from three centers: Jikoji Zen Center, No Barriers Zen, and Santa Barbara Zen Center. If you're not affiliated with one of these, contact your center before registering. The center has not yet published details about the daily schedule, living arrangements, or what the sesshin format includes.
