Zazenkai, CC 3/20
Soto Zen
A one-day zazenkai at San Francisco Zen Center's City Center location. The day includes instruction in posture and breath, with alternating periods of sitting and walking meditation. Open to beginners and experienced practitioners.
About this retreat
A zazenkai is a single day of practice—shorter and more accessible than a full sesshin, but structured around the same sitting and walking meditation that forms the core of Soto Zen training. This one at SFZC's City Center is designed with both newcomers and regulars in mind: you'll get instruction in posture and breath before the day begins, then move through scheduled periods of zazen and kinhin with minimal ceremony.
The center has not published the detailed schedule (wake time, number of sitting periods, meal arrangements, or whether a teacher will lead dokusan) on the signup page. Contact SFZC directly for those specifics.
