Spring Zazenkai: A One Day Meditation Retreat
Soto Zen
One-day silent zazen retreat at Great Vow Zen Monastery. Extended sitting periods with the support of community practice, in the traditional sesshin format.
A one-day zazenkai offers a concentrated practice day without the commitment of a multi-day sesshin. You'll sit longer periods than in a typical weekly sitting — the structure creates momentum and a different quality of presence than scattered practice.
The "container of noble silence" means no talking, minimal eye contact, and a schedule built around zazen (sitting meditation) with breaks for kinhin (walking meditation) and meals. You're practicing alongside others, which tends to settle the mind differently than solo sitting at home.
Great Vow is an established Soto Zen monastery in Oregon with a long history of hosting both intensive and accessible practice. A day-sit is a good entry point if you're curious about sesshin but uncertain about a longer commitment, or a way to deepen practice if you already sit regularly.
