with Norman

hybridzazenkinhinday-sit

One-day hybrid sitting at Green Gulch Farm or online via Zoom, led by Norman. The day runs 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (PT) with periods of zazen and kinhin, a service before lunch, and concludes with the Pali refuges. Participants are asked to commit to sitting the full day.

About this retreat

This is a one-day hybrid sitting hosted by Everyday Zen Foundation, with the in-person option at Green Gulch Farm in Marin County. The day follows a traditional structure: zazen (sitting meditation) and kinhin (walking meditation) throughout the morning and afternoon, a service before lunch, and closing with the Pali refuges.

In-person at Green Gulch Farm

Registration opens April 4 at 10:00 am and closes at noon on the Friday before the sitting. Space is limited and often sells out early. Arrival by 8:45 am is required to check in and be settled by 8:55 am. The center provides zafus, sitting benches, support cushions, and zabutons; you may bring your own if desired. No shoes in the zendo or on the wooden walkway circling it. No water, food, or bags inside the zendo. The fee of $70–$100 (paid to Green Gulch Farm) includes lunch, tea/coffee, and a donation to Everyday Zen.

Online via Zoom

Participants join at 8:45 am and should be seated and on mute by 8:55 am. The Zoom host will post the schedule, the Everyday Zen Chant Book, and forms for requesting dokusan and practice discussion in the chat window on the morning of the sitting. A suggested donation of $30 supports the online program; no one is turned away for lack of funds.

Commitment

Both in-person and online participants are asked to commit to sitting the full day.
