One Day Sit: Dhamma of Love and Justice, Practicing with B.R. Ambedkar as Engaged Buddhists Today
with Maitriveer Nagarjuna·Dhamma
One-day online sit exploring B.R. Ambedkar's engaged Buddhist practice. Includes sitting and walking meditation, a dharma talk, and group reflection with Dhamma teacher and scholar Maitriveer Nagarjuna.
About this retreat
This one-day online retreat centers B.R. Ambedkar's vision of Buddhism as a practice rooted in justice and social engagement. Ambedkar, a 20th-century Indian jurist and social reformer, converted to Buddhism in 1956 as an act of liberation from caste oppression, and framed his approach to the tradition explicitly around dignity and collective liberation—a lineage often called Navayana, or "New Vehicle" Buddhism.
Maitriveer Nagarjuna, a Dhamma teacher and scholar, will guide the day's practice and reflection. The retreat combines sitting and walking meditation with a dharma talk and structured group discussion, offering a chance to sit with how Buddhist practice intersects with questions of justice and collective action today.
The center has not yet published pricing, schedule details, or how online participation will be structured (livestream, breakout rooms for reflection, recording access). Contact Brooklyn Zen Center directly for those specifics.
