Fall Practice Period
with Robin Bradford, Sandra Medina Bocangel, Peg Syverson·Zen
A 100-day fall practice period following the traditional Ango model, running September 8 through December 15. Includes zazen, dharma talks, classes, and close contact with teachers, bookended by an intensive retreat with Head Student Entry and Exit ceremonies.
About this retreat
An Ango is a traditional three-month practice period, historically observed during the rainy season in monastic Zen communities. This 100-day fall period at Appamada follows that structure: intensive retreat at the beginning and end, with regular zazen, dharma talks, and classes in between. The schedule brackets the practice period with Head Student Entry and Exit ceremonies, marking formal transitions into and out of the intensive phase.
The center has not yet published the daily schedule, teacher names, residential or commuter details, pricing, or eligibility requirements. Contact Appamada directly to learn more about what's involved and whether this period is open to visitors or limited to resident practitioners.
